How I support young carers
Young carers look after someone else who may be unwell, have a disability, poor mental health or be tackling a drugs or alcohol addiction. They do this simply because they care. Young carers are aged up to 18, and often take on practical and emotional caring responsibilities, tasks usually expected of adults.
We look after young carers with support, a listening ear, life tools and regular groups and activities.

Salford Young Carers Service
We work with young carers aged up to 18, their family, schools and other agencies to provide support; including sessional support to enable the young person to reach their full potential and overcome issues relating to their caring role. Commissioned by Salford City Council. We also provide support for young adult carers aged 18 – 24.
Shine Young Carers Project
We provide activities for young carers aged 5-16 in Manchester and Salford. These include after school arts and crafts sessions on Mondays (ages 8-13), and drop in sessions over Zoom on Tuesdays (ages 13+) and Wednesdays (under 13’s). Funded by the National Lottery.
